Since its opening on April 16, 1964, the Turm Restaurant has combined culinary excellence with a breathtaking view. At 170 meters high, the restaurant gently rotates, offering a 360° panoramic view over Vienna – a unique experience for both food lovers and city enthusiasts.

The Restaurant Through the Ages
Opening 1964
With the Vienna International Garden Show (WIG), the Donauturm was officially inaugurated – and with it, the restaurant.

The Original Design
Light blue walls, gray-blue sunshades, and dark brown furniture defined the 1960s style.
Historic Service Area
A glimpse into the past: The service area of the Tower Restaurant dates back to the opening year of 1964 – and is still in use today. Its well-thought-out architecture and functional design continue to ensure a smooth workflow between the kitchen and guest areas – a true piece of tower history that lives on.
Lot Of High-Profile Visits
In 1967, the Shah of Persia, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, and his wife Farah Diba paid an official visit to Vienna. A special highlight of their stay: lunch at the Donauturm – high above the rooftops of the city, with a spectacular view.
A Glimpse into the Future – Model of the UNO-City
Vienna City Councillor Heller once presented the model of the planned UNO-City at the Donauturm. High above the city, visitors got a first impression of what would become Vienna’s future international hub – a visionary moment in the city’s development.

Modernization & Elegant Hospitality in the 70s and 80s
During the 1970s and 1980s, the restaurant underwent further modernization. Its stylish interior adapted to the spirit of the times while remaining an exclusive destination for fine dining with a unique view over Vienna.

The restaurant became a popular meeting place for guests from all over the world. Whether for celebratory occasions or an elegant dinner, the Donauturm provided the perfect setting for special moments.
1990s – A New Vienna
As Vienna evolved in the 1990s, so did the view from the tower: the city presented itself as a modern metropolis. The restaurant remained a place where guests could observe these changes from a bird’s-eye perspective.
The Restaurant in the New Millennium
With the start of the 2000s, the restaurant also began to evolve. As Vienna continued to grow and modernize, the Donauturm remained a popular destination – but a major renovation was already in the planning stages.
2013 – Reopening After Renovation
After a complete renovation, the rotating restaurant at the Donauturm was officially reopened with a grand celebration. Among the guests were Adriana Zartl, Yvonne Rueff, Fadi Merza, Renate Brauner, and many more.
Just before its 50th anniversary, the restaurant was updated with a modern interior, featuring fabrics from Backhausen and colorful wall murals, along with a new culinary concept.
Culinary Excellence with a Panoramic View
TheHead chef presents reimagined culinary classics, crafted with locally sourced ingredients. Complementing the dishes, the wine and grape juice selection comes from vineyards visible from the tower itself.
A highlight of the new concept was the inclusion of guest chefs, such as Michelin-starred Otto Koch from the Munich Olympic Tower. For the grand reopening, he delighted guests with exquisite specialties, including foie gras cherries and veal tafelspitz.
2018/19 – Return to the 1960s Style
After the 2018/19 renovation, the Turm Restaurant once again shines in its original 1960s design. Light blue walls, gray-blue sunshades, and dark brown furniture create the elegant retro charm that defined the Donauturm's grand opening in 1964.
As the restaurant gently rotates, guests can enjoy a 360° panoramic view over Vienna—a perfect blend of history, design, and breathtaking scenery.
